Pursuant to Education Code, Section 35120 (c), a member may be paid for any meeting when absent if the board by resolution duly adopted and included in its minutes finds that at the time of the meeting he or she is performing services outside the meeting for the school district or districts, he or she was ill or on jury duty, or the absence was due to a hardship deemed acceptable by the board. Board Members Ms. Juanita Cruz and Mr. Joe Magallanes were not able to attend the April 12, 2022 Board of Education meeting. Thus, administration recommends approval of the resolution for compensation to Board Members Ms. Juanita Cruz and Mr. Joe Magallanes in their absence at the April 12, 2022 Board of Education Meeting. |

In December 2021, the WCUSD School Board hired Dr. Emy Flores as new Superintendent of Schools. As a new Governance Team, the Board of Trustees and Dr. Flores must engage in Governance Team training and workshops, setting the state for trust and building of a common vision, unity of purpose, and a positive organizational culture. Consultants Nicole Anderson and Deborah Keys from Nicole Anderson & Associates is a professional group that works with school districts across the country in leading Governance training/workshops through a student-focus lens. District administration is recommending the Board ratify the agreement with Nicole Anderson & Associates from May 1, 2022 through June 30, 2024. |

Jeffrey L. Eben T. dba The How Many Wins Network will provide professional development to Coronado High School staff on May 18, 2022 to help increase graduation rate and decrease suspensions. National 50 Security and Investigations, Inc. will provide uniformed security officers for Coronado, Edgewood, and West Covina High Schools’ graduation during June 2022. Brent Kollmansberger, game developer of Coding with K-dog, will instruct Edgewood School students in grades 6th – 8th to express their creativity and solve problems during the 2022 Summer Coding Camp. Joel David Balzun will work with the West Covina High School Performing Arts Academy students on developing their vocal skills for performances. - Kana Y. Croissant will work with the West Covina High School Performing Arts Academy students on developing their instrumental skills for performances.
Mark Timothy Navarro Pacpaco will accompany and assist the West Covina High School Performing Arts Academy students on various performances. - BMX Freestyle Team, LLC will provide two 45-minute BMX shows to promote a positive school climate to all students at Cameron Elementary on May 27, 2022.
- 95% Group Inc. will provide virtual professional development on intensive reading intervention to the principal, TOSA and teachers at Merced Elementary School and Orangewood Elementary during the 2021 – 2022 school year.
Brock E. Satterthwaite, a magician of Brock Edwards Magic Extravaganza, will provide one 50-minute magic show to promote a positive school climate to all parents and students at Merced Elementary School on May 11, 2022. History Brought to Life will provide two one-hour sessions on California history to 4th grade students at Merced Elementary School on June 3, 2022. Robert H. Redman, aerospace education specialist with Rockets and Robots, will provide a one-hour session on the history of space and science to 4th grade students at Merced Elementary School on May 23, 2022. - Royale Management Group LLC will provide one 45-minute BMX show to promote a positive school climate to all students at Merced Elementary on May 20, 2022.
- Mobile Ed Productions Inc. will provide a two-hour assembly to K–5th grade students on science, technology, art and math at Merlinda Elementary School on June 30, 2022.
Ballet Folklorico International Dance Company will provide weekly dance classes to all students participating in the Summer Learning Camp at Monte Vista Elementary School from June 13 – July 1, 2022 Help Youth Through Golf will provide weekly golf lessons to all students participating in the Summer Learning Camp at Merlinda Elementary School June 13 – July 1, 2022. Moving Mindz LLC will provide 72 hours of academic instruction in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and language arts to all students participating in the Summer Learning Camp at Monte Vista Elementary School June 13 – July 1, 2022. HoopItUp! Worldwide will provide two 45-minute fitness and nutrition assemblies to all students at Orangewood Elementary on May 23, 2022. Discovery Science Foundation will provide seven 50-minute interactive assemblies on science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and language arts to 1st – 4th grade students at Vine Elementary School during the 2021 – 2022 school year. Prismatic Magic LLC will provide two 40-minute anti-bullying assemblies by combining science, art, history, and music to all students at Vine Elementary School on June 8, 2022.

The Lions Club of West Covina annually supports vision screening services for West Covina Unified School District (WCUSD) students. For the 2022 – 2023 school year, they have arranged the support of Dr. Wayne W. Hoeft, O.D. Vision Screening Services as the professional organization that will provide these services. Dr. Wayne W. Hoeft, O.D. will work with WCUSD nursing staff and school sites to organize and schedule participating optometrists to provide the vision screenings. The cost per child for this examination is $5.25. In addition to the funding support provided by the Lions Club of West Covina, a portion of the cost will be provided through the Medi-Cal account. Administrative staff requests the approval of Dr. Wayne W. Hoeft, O.D. Vision Screening Services, supported by the West Covina Lions Club, to provide vision screening services for WCUSD students. |
